Steps for Drawing a Butterfly
- Start with a vertical oval and divide the oval in half by drawing a vertical line.
- Draw another oval below the first oval, and connect both of the ovals with a curvy line.
- Now draw one more oval over the first oval and draw two small circles for eyes under it.
- Then draw a pair of curves for the antenna.
The basic model is ready, now your kid can design and colour the butterfly as they like.

Note Remember to do the whole sketching with a single pencil to avoid overlapping. To increase the intensity of shading, do not change the pencil, just increase the number of strokes.

The best part about it is it does not require shading. While practising this design, a few mistakes might occur initially, but it’s always good to keep practising. Monarch Butterflies are often found in the spring, and they look absolutely stunning. They always sit on a flower, collect the pollen grain, and disappear before someone tries to catch them. They don’t like to be touched at all. This drawing can be done in both pencil and water colours.
Hack Colour the wings with yellow and put orange pencil colour in alternative steps for clear results.
