When your child learns to write and read, he may struggle to put words together to form coherent sentences or paragraphs. Many kids in the initial learning phase struggle with sentence formation or paragraph structuring.
Research has shown that this can be dealt with when kids learn to read. Reading, ultimately, helps a person in improving their writing skills.
Paragraphs are a group of single sentences combined to form a structured write-up of a single topic or an idea. It helps to arrange the thoughts of the writer into proper shape. It also aids the reader to follow the thread of thoughts in reading. Paragraphs are a way of bringing a transition to a piece.
Learning paragraph writing is essential for all students, from middle school to graduate level. Every child has to write essays or paragraphs for any kind of subject they are dealing with to put forth their ideologies in a clear, concise and coherent manner.
The topic provides kids with a general overview of what the different paragraphs will cover. Structuring them ensures the proper placement of those paragraphs in the correct order to maintain a good transition/flow. This helps kids to introduce their approach, ideas and thoughts about the given topic. Writing a paragraph starts with adequate planning. The planning stage of writing a paragraph is similar to a structural blueprint. One of the common difficulties for students is understanding when to begin a new paragraph.
So here are some of our tips and tricks that specify how paragraph writing can be explained to the child quickly.

While writing, it is necessary to ensure that the first paragraph is catchy enough that it can attract the attention of your audience and prompt them to read further. The first paragraph itself should convey the crux of the piece, i.e., the central idea around which one decided the whole structure. Avoid repetition of words in consecutive sentences and ensure the sentences are interactive and engaging for the audience.
The first paragraph is not the only thing that should ensure readability. The follow-up paragraphs as well should connect with the main idea of the topic. The writing should be in a manner that it can create a picture in the minds of the readers. Your readers should be able to envision what you wish to convey to them.
No one likes reading long and lengthy paragraphs. They can read complex and may tire the audience. It is necessary to form sentences that are crisper and can get the message across. When sentences are crisper, ultimately, the paragraphs will be short. Ensure the paragraph does not exceed four to five lines. This is the most suitable length, which makes it easy for the reader to grasp the written content.
Suppose there are multiple ideas or concepts that need to be covered within a single writing piece. In that case, your child can ensure one paragraph with a proper subheading explains one particular concept. A couple of paragraphs can also be made for this purpose, but once an idea is conveyed, the following paragraph should begin with another subheading. A great tip here would be to add sentences at the end of a paragraph that can indicate an end to a particular idea.
You can use transition words like,
#. In addition
#. However
#. Moreover
#. Therefore
This ensures that you are starting a new paragraph that indicates either a beginning of a new character/idea to a structure or putting an end to the previous sentence. It ensures a smooth reading experience for the reader as well. This can also evoke emotions or generate a particular mood that you may want to put across in the piece of writing.
It is essential, especially if you are teaching kids, to define a particular tone within the piece. Tonality refers to the feelings or perceptions a paragraph may provoke. It can be positive or negative, joyful, sad, pessimistic, descriptive, conversational, etc.
Here is an example of paragraph writing for kids:
Formal and informational: Flaxseeds contain Vitamin E, which helps in improving hair growth.
Conversational and engaging: Did you know Flaxseeds are a great source of Vitamin E that helps boost hair growth?
While it is necessary to define a tone before starting the piece, it is also important to maintain consistency of that tone throughout the article. This will also ensure that the momentum of how the person reads the piece stays intact throughout.

The concluding paragraph of a content piece should summarise the entire piece. It should be the gist of what the reader can get from the written piece. It basically reinforces the main idea behind the piece itself. This is done to create an impact and remind the reader of what the main objective of the write-up is. Do not contradict your own points in the conclusion paragraph, as it can confuse the reader.
For example, if the topic is “How to Stay Healthy?” then the concluding paragraph should be something along the lines of –
“From the above content, we can conclude that one can ensure a healthy lifestyle when they incorporate a proper diet regimen and exercise in their life.”
This is the last step. After you are done, read and reread the content to ensure that there are no grammatical or spelling errors. Check that the commas, semicolons, punctuation marks, etc., are put in the right places. All the proper nouns must begin with a capital letter. You can use a dictionary to ensure that there are no spelling errors. Understand root words to ensure there are no diction issues.
For example, you can call a dog “strong” but not “robust,” although strong and robust are synonyms.
We can not become perfect within a day. Becoming proficient requires consistent practice and iterations to get things right. Keep motivating your children to read. This can help them improve upon their diction, vocabulary, grammar, tone, and sentence construction.
