Most Beautiful Butterfly Drawing Samples: Something for Kids to Indulge In

Butterflies are one of the first things kids learn to draw when they get into the world of colours and sketch pens. Butterflies have always been enigmatic, and very easy to draw. Their colourful wings and their cute little eyes make them look really beautiful. Whether it’s for school homework or just a lazy Sunday, drawing is a kid’s favourite thing to do. It has always been an outlet for creativity. But like any other thing, it’s important to practise to gain mastery over it.

Butterflies have their own charm and are comparatively easier to draw. They have beautiful wings, which seem easy to draw, but in reality, they can be challenging.

Steps for Drawing a Butterfly

  1. Start with a vertical oval and divide the oval in half by drawing a vertical line.
  2. Draw another oval below the first oval, and connect both of the ovals with a curvy line.
  3. Now draw one more oval over the first oval and draw two small circles for eyes under it.
  4. Then draw a pair of curves for the antenna.

The basic model is ready, now your kid can design and colour the butterfly as they like.

There are many different species of butterflies, and the fact that they all are lovely will always be constant.

The Real School Of Montessori brings to you some beautiful and easy butterfly drawing samples for kids to try and recreate: –

Butterfly 1

This is a vector illustration isolated on white background. The best part about this sample piece is that this is a hand drawing, so you could motivate your kids to draw as well.

Note– Shade carefully with different pencils.

Butterfly 2

This image is done through free-hand styling and depicts a continuous, flying line drawing element isolated on white background. This can be used as a logo as well.

Note Provide variants to the design to make it unique.

Butterfly 3

This is a very beautiful piece done with watercolour. Kids can easily create this model with the help of their parents by putting the colours in the places. The design may look difficult to draw, but with practice it will come right.

Butterfly 4

This sample is called vintage butterfly art, and is perfect for kids who are about to begin their journey in sketching and dive right into the world of art. It has its own charm, and the whole design is created just with a pencil.

Note Remember to do the whole sketching with a single pencil to avoid overlapping. To increase the intensity of shading, do not change the pencil, just increase the number of strokes.

Butterfly 5

Get your kids ready for this one. This looks difficult but it’s not. This zentangle style is very common, and is mostly used on t-shirts and pottery. The best part about it is it does not require shading. While practising this design, a few mistakes might occur initially, but it’s always good to keep practising. As the antennas are a mirror image, it helps your child learn precision and improve observational skills.

Note Try a darker shade pencil for good results.

Butterfly 6

Monarch Butterflies are often found in the spring, and they look absolutely stunning. They always sit on a flower, collect the pollen grain, and disappear before someone tries to catch them. They don’t like to be touched at all. This drawing can be done in both pencil and water colours.

Hack Colour the wings with yellow and put orange pencil colour in alternative steps for clear results.

Butterfly 7

An abstract design done with watercolour is also a great idea. Kids can try drawing this design with blue and cyan blots. It’s not at all difficult and looks stunning on a hardboard.

Hack Try mixing white and blue colour to make a lighter shade of dark blue for better transitions in shading.

Butterfly 8

These types of designs are very popular among kids. They are more animated in nature.  It is suggested to recreate these designs with colour pencils.

Note Try pastel colours for clarity and precision.

Butterfly 9

This design sample is called a seamless silhouette pattern. It looks as if the butterflies have eyes. Its beauty lies in its black and white theme, along with the decorative, summer floral idea.

Note: You can try and use leaves for painting the antennas of butterflies for a unique texture.

Butterfly 10

This is a classic graphic design that is as easy to draw as it looks. With this type of drawing, it is easy to fill it with colours. The best part of this drawing sample is it has a lot of space to easily work with. It doesn’t take much effort and still looks amazing.

Pro Tip Try thinking of more nature-related ideas such as water bubbles, droplets, sunflowers, etc to draw the inside design of the butterfly.

Conclusion

Butterflies are extraordinary creatures, and so are their designs. These were some of the best and easiest design samples kids could use to draw and practise their shading and colouring skills.
