This is what we call vowel-consonant(VC) blending. Once the kid is aware of vowels and constants, teach them to blend a vowel and consonants. There are many phonics two-letter words made out of blending vowels and consonants. The next step is to teach new words using the blended two-letter words. For a child who is familiar with the two-letter VC blended words, it is easier for him/her to figure out a new word. As they become big kids, they could make more words using the VC blending. Examples of bc words are ab, en, it, ox, ut.
Teach your child the basics of phonics so that they could understand that the spelling and the actual sound of a word are different. Kindergarten kids enjoy studying the sound and pronunciation of letters. If your child is in kindergarten, introduce simple two-letter phonic words like me, he, on, at, no, etc. Big kids can be trained to make new words out of the phonic two-letter words.

ab – I took a cab to the airport.

am – I love mixed fruit jam.

IP – it’s cold outside. Zip your jacket.
ib – something happened to the nib of my pen.
It – it is a bit hot outside.
ob – my dream job is to become a pilot.
od – he has given me a fishing rod for my birthday.
ot – I’m not coming today.
ox – I put all my old books in a box.
Ug- a bug crossed across my leg
ub- I love lion cub.
