1. Make a Word Board

Through this board, kids quickly memorize the words of daily use.

Materials Required:

  • A big bulletin board.
  • Sticky notes
  • Marker
  • A bunch of picture stickers

Steps to Perform the Activity

  • Find a place on your wall that is visible from most parts of the house.
  • Place the bulletin board there.
  • Write the names of things, places, animals that they regularly see like doors, parks, roses, cats, tulips, grass, fruit baskets, scissors, etc on the sticker notes. To make it attractive you can use colourful markers. Then stick or pin them on the board.
  • Also, place the picture of those things beside the note.

How to Make it More Advance

To make the board more informative, you can add brief details about that thing. For example, if you have pinned a picture of cats. You can add that these details:

  • They are mammals.
  • They belong to the same family as Lions and Tigers.
  • Their kids are known as kittens.

The human mind remembers pictures more than text. So, whenever they see this board their mind records the picture and name of the thing. Through this way, their vocabulary will develop. Also, they will easily memorize the spellings of complicated words.

2. Dice Game

Kids are generally not interested in mathematics. They take arithmetic equations as a burden. However, with these fun learning activities for 5 year olds, they will enjoy the basic mathematical questions of addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division.

Materials Required

  • Any tray used for either freezing ice or baking cupcakes.
  • Two dices
  • Whiteboard Marker ( Make sure you don’t use a permanent marker)
  • Kitchen tissue

Steps to Perform this Activity

  • Put the tray on a table
  • Roll one dice in a way that it falls on anyone hole of the tray. Similarly, put another dice adjacent to the first dice.
  • Now, with the help of markers, write the arithmetic calculation they would do. For example, if the number on two dice are 5 and 6 respectively and you give an additional symbol in between them. The kid adds and answers 30.
  • Then with the help of kitchen tissue, you can remove the marks of the marker.

How to Make it More Advance

When your kid starts adding two digits easily. You can throw dice in three or four holes and then give them arithmetic symbols. For example, if the four die points 5, 6, 7, and 8 and you give an additional symbol. The kid will immediately add them and answer 26.

Kids become calculation experts with this activity. Most kids fear when they perform long arithmetic operations. Through this activity, kids will overcome this easily. They will start playing with long calculations. To develop their reflexes, you can set a time bar like 30 seconds for two-digit numbers and 1 min for more than that.

3. Make a Toy City

Every toy present in the house like lego, toy animals, toy humans, trees, railway tracks, cars, trains, etc.

  • Create a free space in their room ( free space does not mean that you need to remove furniture from the room. Just make sure that there is no object placed on that furniture or the floor) or any other place in your house.
  • Allow children to create their own toy city. They can place railway tracks, cars, and make buildings with lego. They can place a boundary with the help of ice-cream sticks and spong. Place trees, flowers, and humans to represent a park. They can add animals and humans in between the building and roads.

Instead of a regular city, ask them to make a smart city that coordinates with sustainable development goals. They might not get exact materials but, they can create a replica with the help of crafting materials.
