How to Teach Kids to Write Alphabets?

Kids always show great interest in learning new things. The fact that our kids learn to write, speak, draw and learn a language in such a short span of time is remarkable in and of itself. We all want our tiny kids to study and develop the abilities that will help them grow up properly as parents, caretakers, literates, and educators.

So how to teach kids to write alphabets, so that next time when you take your kid to a park or a mall, they can see and identify the letters and words on the entrance or welcome board. Well, as mentioned earlier, it is not an easy task.

It takes a lot more than simply holding a pencil or crayon in their fingers and staring at some images. They must put in a lot of practice time, and the good news is that charity always begins at home.

1. Arm Movements

The first stage in training how to teach kids to write is to have them make broad arm movements. Children can strengthen their entire arms and even their core by doing so. Consider the movements you make when you write on a sheet of paper. You’re crossing your body with your arms, and you might even sense it in your abdomen.

Lying on the floor or writing on a vertical surface are two frequent ways for kids to start this process. The handwriting of the kids has a great dependence on their motor skills. Effective control of the major groups in the shoulder, trunk, and neck is mandatory for the hands and figures to write letters and words.

To develop the arm movements of a kid, various activities like crawling, wheelbarrow walks, walking, pushing, digging, pulling can be encouraged in kids. These are all ways through which your child can improve his or her coordination and actions. It will also help them enhance their writing and reading strength, self-regulation and processing of the senses.

2. Proper Grip and Posture

Holding the pen properly and getting the right grip will help your kids write more easily. Also teach them to sit in a particular posture, because good posture dictates concentration. Choose the right pencil for them. This will make writing easier for them while also improving their handwriting.

Golf pencils can be useful. It would be nice to start with a shorter pencil, when a pencil is shorter; there is less space for squeezing in more tiny figures. It essentially requires toddlers to pinch with their index and thumb figures.

If the method with a short pencil does not work, try out ‘pinch and flip’. Tell them to pinch at the sharpened tip of the pencil and turn it around until it sits in the position between their thumb and index fingers. In reality, holding and using scissors correctly is extremely similar to correctly grabbing and utilizing a pencil.

Give your child additional materials and instruct them to hold them in their palm or finger. This will assist them in becoming more comfortable with holding stuff.

Make everything available for your child to use in his or her artistic endeavors from the time they start writing.

4. Read Together

You may think reading and writing are two different things, but children should have exposure to print materials. Every time you read their favorite storybook, let them see all the alphabets and words. Take them to the public library weekly if it’s possible. Some letters will imprint on their mind.

Once they are familiar with letters, children will start to figure out the shape of the letter. Slowly they will start to copy it down on a piece of paper. Hang alphabet posters and charts in their playroom and study room, so that they could have better access to the letters.

5. Let Them Write on Top of the Alphabets

How to teach kids to write can be easier when they are trained to write on the top alphabet that you have written. Tracing a letter will make learning the outlines and curves of an alphabet much easier for a toddler. Make a list of alphabets and have your youngster write over them.

6. Never Force Them to Write

Never consider how to teach writings to kids as necessary. Teaching them to write should be a fun activity. No children learn to write in a single day. So as parents, you should have patience and positivity. Some parents are concerned that their child will not develop this positive habit.
