How to Teach Kids Even and Odd Numbers? Make Maths a Fun Subject

Mathematics is an interesting and innovative subject if we approach it in the right way. There are numbers all over the place. Our young kids may not have been properly adapted to numbers, yet they appear to have some basic understanding of them.

Children fall in love with mathematics once they understand the basic concept behind every problem. From an early age onwards children have been exposed to and seen many mathematical ideas, such as numbers in less or more quantity and also pattern identification. But, they won’t fully understand the meaning of numbers until they’re approximately five years old, though.

How to Teach Numbers to Kids?

Numbers are one of the most important abilities for every youngster to learn. It is a vital component of everyday living skills in addition to academics. Children begin learning the basics of mathematics from a very early age itself and how to teach numbers to kids is not hard if you know the appropriate teaching methods.

1. Number Rhymes

Who doesn’t like rhymes? Rhymes help children learn, communicate, and expand their language because we allow them to hear repeating lines and gradually children learn and memorize those rhymes. So number rhyme is one of the best methods to teach numbers to kids.

To engage your kids, you can also try some action songs. While singing the songs, show the numbers on your fingers, so that it is easier for kids to understand that those numbers correspond to the numbers of fingers.

2. Make Numbers a Part of their Day-to-Day Routine

Introduce numbers into the activities you undertake with your youngster regularly. Start with simple tasks – for example when your child asks you his/her crayons or when you colour together, ask them to count the number of colours they used in their painting or to find out the number of missing crayons. Another interesting way to teach numbers to youngsters is to have them count how many hands, ears, fingers, or legs, which will also help them become more self-aware.

3. Draw Some Numbers

Kids love drawing and painting, so make a list of numbers and ask your child to draw a character or an object to represent each one, or you could even tell them to straight draw the pictures of the numbers. It’s a good activity, and it also ensures that kids are correctly associating numbers with things. When you draw together, you can also draw some animals or things and make them note down how many you drew.

How to Teach Kids Even and Odd Numbers?

Does your little one have any trouble in learning odd and even numbers? Well, it may be a little tricky for some of the kids to master the concept of odd and even numbers even though it’s very easy. If you are worried about how to teach kids even and odd numbers, then you are at the right place.

With the right tricks and tips, your little one can master odd and even numbers in a few days. Always encourage them to study mathematics in a healthy way. Here are some easy methods to teach kids even and odd numbers using some simple tricks and methods.

Finger Partners:  For this activity, tell your kids to stretch out a few of his/her fingers and see how many have a partner. You can use story mode to describe this activity by saying that the finger with a buddy is even, whereas the finger that is alone is odd. You’ll have to remind kids to examine the one location for the exact figure of finger companions for larger numbers.

Once you teach them the secrets, the next step is to encourage them to do this activity using their toys or other available things at home. You can also tell them to figure out odd and even numbers while they play, watch cartoons, paint, etc using this method.

Shout Out Game: This game would be more fun if you include more participants. Tell them to count to a specific number either by murmuring the even number and yelling the odd number.

It’s completely fine if your kid doesn’t have other kids to play around, you can play along with them.

The ones who fail to murmur or shout the odd and even number will be disqualified. This game also helps  to improve the concentration skills of your child.  Every time you tell the odd and even numbers, switch roles.

Head-Down Game:  This is an activity to check whether your kid is familiar with odd and even numbers. Tell your kids to place their heads on their desks and start with smaller numbers. For even numbers, kids should raise their hands and for odd numbers, they can rest their hands on their heads.

Parents should be cautious when playing head-down games since there is a risk of hitting the child’s head on the table. As a result, avoid playing this game on fast mode. You can also play this game by closing and opening your eyes.

Painting:  Odd and even numbers can be learned through painting in the same way that numbers can. It’s best to use two vivid colours, such as red and black, for this approach. Use these two colours for even and odd numbers respectively, so that they progressively imprint in their minds and kids can easily figure out odd and even numbers.
